Homemade!

Homemade eggs Benny!
This was delicious, and not as difficult as I thought it would be (though I did have a low-level freak out mid-way through making the hollandaise). I would do it again!

Bicycle Thief: UPDATE

I got my bike back! I was riding down the street on my brother's old bike, on the way to the shop to fix it up, and ran into a man riding my bike. I screamed "That's MY BIKE!!!" and he was super nice and gave it back without a fuss. Thanks dude!

I bought an expensive new lock, but the other night someone stole my seat, post and all! It was not a quick release, it required an allen key. Now that I've replaced that, I will be keeping my bike on my back deck, even though it means carrying it up and down a very narrow flight of stairs all the time. Damn thieves!

Bicycle Thief

My bicycle was stolen from outside my apartment, and I'm devastated. I loved my bike so much. It looked cool and it just worked perfectly all the time, even when I left it out in the snow on my deck all winter (sorry bike!). Since I am terrible at photos and never take any, I don't have any pictures of it, but my friend Sarah and I found some of the same bike online. It's actually a pretty rare model that was only made for a few years.

It was this model, but without the chain guard.
Also, I recently got a nice new brown leather seat and awesome cork grips. Poor bike.

Sarah made this post for me: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/2539453412.html Tell your friends!

A friend had a bike stolen recently and saw it around the neighbourhood and managed to get it back. I am really hoping that this will happen to me. I will be keeping my eyes peeled, and let me tell you, if I see somebody riding around on my bike I'll be on them like a cast member on The Challenge who has just been thrown into the jungle. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you really should be watching more MTV.

Haw Cheese

Yesterday my friend offered me a candy, sort of. It was called "Haw Cheese" but my friend assured me that it was not made of cheese.

Andrea & Zach's wedding!

Ok, I am super late on this but I am finally putting up a couple of photos of my friend Andrea's wedding. It was in Kincardine, Ontario (on June 12th! see how late I am?) in a pavillion on Lake Huron, with the ceremony itself on the beach. The wedding was beautiful and also a lot of fun (the Royal Crowns played; they're a blast), and Andrea and Zach looked fantastic (my photos do not do them justice).

Andrea and Zach, walking to the beach for the ceremony.
So lovely!
This is my favorite of the pics i took. Andrea looks so cute!
I bet this would be a really nice photo of Moira and Mark, if you could see their faces.
and here's a nice photo that the wedding photographer (Johnny Lam) took of the cupcakes (with our flags!)
It was too dark inside for me to take any good photos with my iphone, but the photographer has pics up on his blog, and they're all gorgeous. You can check them out here.  Beautiful, right?

Did I mention that there were illegal fireworks at the end of the night? So much fun!

Free Stuff...

I want it. But only if it's REALLY free—I don't want to do a long survey or have a conversation, I just want to be handed something and allowed to leave. I have discovered that I'm willing to whore myself out a little if the free stuff is good (Hi Kiehl's! Thanks for the samples. I  commented on facebook; where is my $15 gift card?). In this spirit, I really like to take the free music download cards that they give out at Starbucks. Usually the music is terrible or just not to my taste, but sometimes it's good. So this afternoon when i saw a sign telling me that if I bought a frappuccino I would get a free "10 Song Summer Mix" i was all "Hey Barrista! I just bought a frappuccino! Can I have my free '10 Song Summer Mix'?"

so summery, Starbucks!

"Oh sure," she said and as she handed it to me she whispered "it's not very good. I don't even know these bands."

So, is it terrible? We'll see! I like a few of these bands. Let's see what else Starbucks thinks should be on my soundtrack this summer.

Flags!

A few weeks ago some girlfriends and I got together to do a craft for my friend Andrea's wedding. She's going for a very DIY vibe, and based on what she's told me, it sounds like it's going to be beautiful. I will try to take pictures, but I can't make any promises. But! I did remember to take a few pictures while we were crafting.

my fellow crafters, Moira and Andrea
We made little flags to go in cupcakes and the signature cocktails that she'll be serving. I have to say, they turned out pretty great (please excuse my photos, the flags are nice, i promise)!

finished flags and crafting mess
We wound up starting a little later than we planned due to some slow service at the pub down the street, and by the time we were finished it was well after midnight. It really took me back to late nights toiling away at art school. Luckily we had plenty of good tunes and cocktails, so all in all it was lots of fun. I can't wait to see the flags in action at Andrea's wedding this weekend!

O! for a horse with wings!*

So far I've been a very bad blogger. I've been thinking about it, and I think that the problem might be that I am not a photographer. Many of the blogs that I read regularly rely heavily on photos of things that they've done and seen and eaten, etc. I am also not a graphic designer (as evidenced by the current look of the blog—I'm working on it! UPDATE: I have made changes! Do you like them?), so I've been struggling with how to incorporate the visuals that I would like to have. I don't have a great answer yet. Get better at photography? Perhaps.

In the meantime, here are some cool images from the Kaufmann Mercantile blog. They did a post about the future, as imagined in the past. This is actually an assignment that I did while I was at OCAD; we had to make a collage (which I'm sure I still have somewhere because I'm basically a really organized hoarder). My favorite were the ones about flying. When you think about it, flying is basically a miracle. It sort of makes more sense to just fill giant balloons with buoyant gas and use them to float things around than the whole physics thing that we use to make airplanes fly, so there's a certain sort of logic behind these crazy airships:

And then there's this, which is just great:

I'll leave you with Edison's Predictions for the Year 2011. Mr. Edison really thought that metals were the future.

*this is from Shakespeare (Cymbeline, Act 3 Scene 2); I just wanted a good quote about flying, and this seemed appropriate.

I guess I'll just dive in...

After months of mulling over exactly what I want this blog to be, I decided should stop thinking about it and just go for it. After all, it's not much of a blog if there's nothing on it. So here goes!

This is my favorite thing that I've seen on the internet today:

from here: http://storageandglee.blogspot.com/2011/03/glass-metal-in-bathroom.html
Vintage mason jars, dark wood, and metal hardware all together? Yes please. I think I'm going to try to make a version of my own. It will go well with the vintage glass snap-top jars that I already use for bathroom storage, and will free up some valuable counter space.

I stumbled across this blog while I was browsing Pinterest earlier, and will definitely be adding it to my rotation. It's full of lots of interesting, attractive storage ideas, and since my place is the size of a shoebox I'm always looking for new ways to tidy it up.
